The print shows Nelson's Pillar (bombed and demolished in 1966) where in its place now stands the Spire of Dublin, the Monument of Light. Shops and buildings are shown on either side of the thoroughfare, most noticable being the GPO (General Post Office) on the left of the monument and a Manufactory on the corner of Bachelors Walk and Lower O'Connell Street on the left at the bridge. The street scene provides a fascinating glimpse into the life of the city in the 1860's; well dressed couples strolling, an officer on horseback, a man on crutches, street traders and porters, horse drawn carriages, dogs and children.
