ERNST HAECKEL: Acephala, Quality Fine Art Poster. Our posters are of the highest quality. Many, many hours of work have gone into editing and preparing each image to ensure that the end result is as clean and crisp as possible without compromising the original. Ernst Haeckel’s illustrations were scientifically meticulous and executed with utmost delicacy. His drawings were rendered with exquisite precision. In Haeckel's vision, the natural world was stylized, symmetrical, perfectly patterned, and flawless. The geometric shapes and natural forms in Ernst Haeckel's prints still influence artists and designers to this day. He drew specimens in the field, traveling from Sicily to Ceylon and through the North Sea to find deep-sea vegetation and organisms, shells, orchids, birds and ferns. Perfectly spiraling floral tendrils reflected Haeckel's ideal of the form. His purpose was to convey a harmony of the natural world, and its gorgeous unifying patterns. Every flower or creature was considered a perfect form of nature. Haeckel philosophy is embodied in his art: the pursuit of beauty and a perfect order. Powerful modern microscopes have confirmed the accuracy of Haeckel's prints, which even in their day, became world famous. Haeckel introduced the term "ecology," a concept that he illustrated with his beautiful impressions of the natural world. Ernst Haeckel 1834 – 1919 was a German biologist, naturalist, philosopher, physician, professor, and artist who discovered, described and named thousands of new species, mapped a genealogical tree relating all life forms, and coined many terms in biology. Haeckel promoted and popularised Charles Darwin's work in Germany. The published artwork of Haeckel includes over 100 detailed, multi-colour illustrations of plants, animals and sea creatures.
