"Daybreak" Maxfield Parrish, 1922, shows a dreamy scene of a young woman lying between two columns with a lapis blue background landscape on a lampshade for an upright lamp. Standing over her is a mysterious androgynous spirit. This vintage print was one of the most popular of its time. Commissioned by the art publishing firm, House of Art, in August of 1920 "Daybreak" Parrish's first work commissioned solely for the purpose of reproduction as a color lithographic print was distributed as an art print beginning in 1922. In the 1920's Maxfield Parrish's prints were in one fourth of all American households. Maxfield Parrish was one of America's best known painters in the early twentieth century. He illustrated Poems of Childhood.
