This postcard features a reproduction of a vintage engraving of the Mississippi steamboat, The City of Memphis, published in 1860. The tinted print shows the steamboat docked on the riverside beside a building with a ramp for access. The name of the steamboat is shown on the side below a sign which reads 'US Mail'. Smoke billows from the two stacks and passengers on the foredeck and a cart laden with goods drawn by horse suggest that the steam boat is preparing to depart. The City of Memphis was built in 1857 and remained in service until an accident 1866 when the boilers exploded with fatalities.
