Lemurs are primates found only on Madagascar and the neighboring Comoros Island. Most are plant eating herbivores, a few dine on insects.
Most lemurs are listed as endangered or threatened species. Many species have become extinct in the last century, mainly due to deforestation and hunting. Approximately 90% of Madagascar’s original rainforest has been destroyed and destruction of the lemurs' habitats still continues.
